Enchanting Images of Hummingbird Wings Glowing with Rainbow Hues
Sometimes most of the beautiful things are left unnoticed by many of us. With all our busy schedules, many of us do not have time even to look around our home gardens but if you carefully watch your surroundings you would surely be blessed to see so many beautiful things around you which are the gifts of Mother Nature.
Christian Spencer was always a huge admirer of mother nature. He loved all withered leaves, beautiful flowers and noisy ocean waves. He became a photographer because he wanted to store all those beautiful things he sees and show them all to others.

One evening when he was seated on his verandah in Rio de Janeiro, he noticed a Jacobian hummingbird. But the most spectacular thing was how the sun strikes through the bird’s wings creating an effect similar to a prism. The colors traveled through the bird’s wings making it a flying rainbow and Christian was left speechless! He immediately decided to capture this magnificent sight and if you scroll down you would see his beautiful shots.
In 2011, Spencer captured the beautiful bird’s movements for a film called The Dance of Time. Since then, these pictures have received 10 international awards as well as three best film honors. But there were more rainbow-colored hummingbirds to come. A few years later, Spencer revisited the subject. “I decided to try and photograph the same phenomenon created by birds’ wings with my camera,” he told My Modern Met. His latest creative endeavors resulted in a series called Winged Prism, and for Spencer, the beautiful photos reveal “a secret of nature that cannot be seen with our eyes.”
Spencer said he didn’t use any digital manipulation while creating the series. “There is no special technique,” he explained, “just diffraction of light through the wings of these colorful birds.”
“Nobody ever could have dreamed that this was a reality. I receive emails every day from people across the world touched by these images.”
