Here’s Why You Should Leave A Coin In The Freezer Before Leaving The House

Planning a vacation and leaving food in the freezer? Then, this article is a must-read. Today, we’re unveiling a simple yet crucial trick to ensure the safety of the food you’ve stored in the freezer while you’re away.

Occasionally, power outages can occur while we’re absent from home, unknowingly causing food in the freezer to defrost and spoil.

A woman ingeniously devised a method to help us verify if our refrigerators are still operating efficiently—using only a single mug of water and a penny! With this straightforward technique, you can bid farewell to concerns about discovering spoiled produce in your fridge upon your return.

Enter Sheila Pulanco Russell’s brilliant innovation: the fridge-mug experiment, utilizing ordinary tap water. It’s a no-fuss assessment—should the penny freeze, your fridge is effectively maintaining the desired temperature, safeguarding your groceries. However, if it remains unfrozen, it might be a sign that it’s time to consider replacing your refrigerator to avert food spoilage. Give it a whirl at home today!

In a Facebook post which quickly received hundreds of thousands of reactions and shares, Sheila explains how to proceed. She writes:

“For those of you that are evacuating from the coast, I just heard a great tip. It’s called the one cup tip. You put a cup of water in your freezer. Freeze it solid and then put a quarter on top of it and leave it in your freezer. That way when you come back after you’ve been evacuated you can tell if your food went completely bad and just refroze or if it stayed frozen while you were gone.

If the quarter has fallen to the bottom of the cup that means all the food defrosted and you should throw it out. But if the quarter is either on the top or in the middle of the cup then your food may still be ok. It would also be a great idea to leave this in your freezer all the time and if you lose power for any reason you will have this tip to fall back on.

If you don’t feel good about your food, just throw it out. The main thing is for all to be safe. Please SHARE this on your page. 😀

Regardless, if you’re uncertain about the safety of food, it’s best to discard it. Your health is always the most important priority in life, and it should never be compromised.
