You’ll happily attend this even if you love dogs. In Nepal, they have picked a special day to thank dogs for their true friendship and loyalty.
Every year in the fall, millions of Hindus celebrate “Diwali”, a “festival of lights”.
During the celebration, they celebrated an event called Kukur Tihar or Kukur Puja which is dedicated to dogs.
This Tihar celebration lasts for five days. In the second day, is they worship dogs, by offering them delicious foods, adorning them with flower garlands, and marking them with “tika” on the forehead.
It says that the animal is a sacred being by the red powder mark. The images of dogs honored in this way are heart-warming.
This celebration is not only for the dog pets, the stray dogs are also cherished in the same way.
This royal treatment of dogs is given as they believe the dogs are the messengers of Yama, the Hindu god of death, and it is a way to appease the god.
The dogs are also mentioned in the Hindu text Mahabharata, in which Yudhishthira, the king of righteousness, didn’t want to enter heaven without his furry best friend.
