Norway has responded to Donald Trump’s latest controversial remarks with a clever dose of humor, turning an unexpected political insult into a lighthearted tourism campaign.
The controversy began after Trump reportedly criticized Norway during a public rally, expressing frustration over repeatedly missing out on the Nobel Peace Prize. He even used an offensive term to describe the Scandinavian country and suggested that Norwegian immigrants were no longer welcome in the United States.
Rather than responding with an angry diplomatic statement, Norway’s tourism board decided to take a completely different approach.
Visit Norway launched a tongue-in-cheek promotional campaign highlighting some of the country’s most impressive public toilets, jokingly asking whether they could be considered the world’s best.
Playing on Trump’s insult, the campaign humorously declared that Norway was making its public toilets great again.
The promotional guide features several architecturally impressive restrooms located along Norway’s beautiful scenic routes and fjord trails. Among them is the famous Golden Loo at Ersfjordstranda on the island of Senja.
The tourism board even joked that visitors who cannot afford a luxurious gold-plated toilet seat could enjoy Norway’s own golden restroom experience instead.
The campaign quickly attracted attention for its unusual creativity and clever sense of humor.
Rather than escalating the political disagreement, Norway chose to respond with wit, turning an insult into an opportunity to showcase its unique architecture and tourist attractions.
Sometimes, the cleverest response isn’t an argument. It’s simply knowing how to laugh at the situation.
