After a dog named Monster fell off a shrimp boat, her owner feared the worst. However, days later, there was a miraculous reunion as the resilient dog swam back home.
Keith “Kiwi” Soffes, a shrimp boat captain from San Leon, Texas, adores his dog Monster, who always stays by his side, joining him on his daily trips out to sea.
During a recent voyage, tragedy struck when Monster slipped overboard. Despite being a seasoned sailor, the dog vanished without a trace, leaving Keith devastated.
Despite searching tirelessly, Keith couldn’t find his beloved companion. He felt like he had lost the most precious thing in his life.
Keith shared the story on social media, continuing to hope Monster would show up somewhere. He received a lot of support and prayers from people online.
But five days after Monster went missing, he got great news: Monster was alive and well… after having quite an adventure at sea.
According to FOX 26 Houston, Monster survived by swimming between five and six miles to shore across the Galveston Bay.
Monster was found days later after reaching the shore. Keith was stunned after hearing her story.
“I said ‘man, she couldn’t have made that swim,” he told FOX 26. “There’s no way that dog swam that long.”
After many emotional days apart, Keith and Monster were overjoyed to reunite.
“I was crying so hard I couldn’t even talk,” Keith said. “She was giving me so many kisses.”
Now, Monster is finally safe and sound at home. Keith says that while he’s still exhausted from the emotional search, Monster, despite her long adventure, seems pretty unfazed.
“She behaves as if nothing occurred,” Keith posted on social media, accompanied by a picture of the dog peacefully napping. “She goes to sleep content as can be… I believe she might have purposely leaped off. Just to get some attention on TV,” he teased.
“Nevertheless, I still adore her… and am relieved to have my little companion back.”
To prevent any similar incidents, Keith mentioned to FOX 26 that he plans to outfit the dog with a tracking device and a life vest for future boating excursions.
What a remarkable outcome. We are delighted that Monster reached the shore unharmed and reunited with her deeply concerned owner. It’s evident that these two share a strong bond and are ecstatic to be back together.
