Street Artist Paints Fake Shadows To Confuse Pedestrians, And The Result Looks Almost Too Real

Redwood City, California a beautiful place to live, but something’s lurking in the shadows. In a new fad the local artists are painting some spooky shadows. Damon Belanger is the graphic artist behind this spooky fun and creative idea. “The shadows give regular mundane objects a lively spirit so people can have a little fun in their everyday life.” Image walking down the street, lampposts, bike racks, fire hydrants, mailboxes all seem to come to life.

But how is it all done? Damon Belanger was commissioned to install 20 fake shadows in the downtown area of Redwood City in order to inspire more creativity in the area. Damon used stencils that he designed using a dark gray to match the look a shadow would have. Achieving life-like shadows ranging from spooky to light and cheerful brightening up the downtown area of Redwood.
