Susan Dey’s Post-“The Partridge Family” Life and Secret Crush on David Cassidy

Did you watch “The Partridge Family?” If you were a fan, you likely admired Laurie Partridge, portrayed by Susan Dey.

Susan had no acting experience when she got the role in the ABC series that ran from 1970 to 1974. Despite this, she was very talented and seemed like a natural in front of the camera.

The singing family’s adventures on a psychedelic school bus captivated audiences as they traveled and performed across different locations. Their popularity soared in the U.K after success in the States.

Susan had a crush on her colleague David Cassidy, who portrayed Keith in the show. Many girls adored him, including Susan. They only began dating after the show ended, despite Susan’s long-standing crush.

Their romance was short-lived, but they stayed close friends even after David wrote his book, C’mon, Get Happy: Fear and Loathing on the Partridge Family Bus, revealing personal details about their time together. In the book, he mentioned breaking things off because he felt Susan was too naive for him.

This made Susan mad. She vowed to never speak to him again and even refused to attend the cast reunion years later.

After her role in “The Partridge Family,” Susan appeared in numerous films and TV series, and also authored a book called Susan Dey’s Secrets on Boys, Beauty, and Popularity.

Throughout her career, she received six Golden Globe and three Emmy award nominations. Eventually, she triumphed by winning a Golden Globe award for her exceptional portrayal of Grace Van Owen in the renowned series “LA Law.”

Susan declined the part of Sandy in Grease, while Olivia Newton John, who ended up playing Sandy, was asked to play Laurie in “The Partridge Family” but her manager advised her against it.

Susan now lives peacefully in New York with her husband and kids. She may not be in the spotlight anymore, but she will always be remembered for making our childhood memorable. The show “The Partridge Family” will always hold a special place in our hearts.
